Semi-supervised Gaussian process latent variable model with pairwise constraints

چکیده
In machine learning, Gaussian process latent variable model (GP-LVM) has been extensively applied in the field of unsupervised dimensionality reduction. When some supervised information, e.g., pairwise constraints or labels of the data, is available, the traditional GP-LVM cannot directly utilize such supervised information to improve the performance of dimensionality reduction. In this case, it is necessary to modify the traditional GP-LVM to make it capable of handing the supervised or semisupervised learning tasks. For this purpose, we propose a new semi-supervised GP-LVM framework under the pairwise constraints. Through transferring the pairwise constraints in the observed space to the latent space, the constrained priori information on the latent variables can be obtained. Under this constrained priori, the latent variables are optimized by the maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated with experiments on a variety of data sets. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Fault diagnosis of a railway device using semi-supervised independent factor analysis with mixing constraints
Independent factor analysis (IFA) defines a generative model for observed data that are assumed to be linear mixtures of some unknown non-Gaussian, mutually independent latent variables (also called sources or independent components). The probability density function of each individual latent variable is modelled by a mixture of Gaussians (MOG). Learning in the context of this model is usually ...
متن کاملSemi-supervised Clustering with Pairwise Constraints: A Discriminative Approach
We consider the semi-supervised clustering problem where we know (with varying degree of certainty) that some sample pairs are (or are not) in the same class. Unlike previous efforts in adapting clustering algorithms to incorporate those pairwise relations, our work is based on a discriminative model. We generalize the standard Gaussian process classifier (GPC) to express our classification pre...
متن کاملAccuracy of latent-variable estimation in Bayesian semi-supervised learning
Hierarchical probabilistic models, such as Gaussian mixture models, are widely used for unsupervised learning tasks. These models consist of observable and latent variables, which represent the observable data and the underlying data-generation process, respectively. Unsupervised learning tasks, such as cluster analysis, are regarded as estimations of latent variables based on the observable on...
متن کاملScalable Gaussian Processes for Supervised Hashing
We propose a flexible procedure for large-scale image search by hash functions with kernels. Our method treats binary codes and pairwise semantic similarity as latent and observed variables, respectively, in a probabilistic model based on Gaussian processes for binary classification. We present an efficient inference algorithm with the sparse pseudo-input Gaussian process (SPGP) model and paral...
متن کاملExploring the roles of cannot-link constraint in community detection via Multi-variance Mixed Gaussian Generative Model
Due to the demand for performance improvement and the existence of prior information, semi-supervised community detection with pairwise constraints becomes a hot topic. Most existing methods have been successfully encoding the must-link constraints, but neglect the opposite ones, i.e., the cannot-link constraints, which can force the exclusion between nodes. In this paper, we are interested in ...
